Decorative Furniture Studs by Gorgeous Creatures

Decorative Furniture Studs

Ottomans with decorative studs. Why use studs on furniture?

Decorative furniture studs, also called decorative nails or nailhead trim, are an easy and very effective way to add detail, and interest which can easily jazz up an ottoman.

Decorative studs add an element of elegance and visual interest to furniture. They create a decorative border or pattern that can enhance the overall appearance of the piece. The shine and texture of the studs can catch the eye and contribute to the furniture's aesthetics.

Nailhead trim has a long history in furniture design, dating back to the 17th century. It is often associated with classic and traditional styles, such as Chesterfield sofas or vintage wingback chairs. Using studs can help furniture designers achieve a timeless and sophisticated look.

Decorative studs have experienced a resurgence in popularity, especially in modern and retro-inspired furniture design. Using nailhead trim can create a sense of nostalgia and pay homage to classic design elements. If your existing furniture has studs, add them to an ottoman to help them match the theme.

Strip or continuous studs, which are studs joined close together, are smaller and easier to apply. They are also cheaper than individually applied decorative studs.

At Gorgeous Creatures we use the larger individual studs more often, especially the larger 19mm stud size. This stud works well with the proportions of a large furniture item, and gives a less busy look that suits cowhide.

The main benefit of studs that are applied one by one is that you can control the spacing. If you space them out with about the same width space between each stud they can look less crowded and busy.

We stock some lovely decorative stud colours that other furniture designers don't have. Or we can try to source studs to suit your project. Contact us for more information.
