Our possum merino knitwear is proudly made in New Zealand. We feature two different blends. The luxury blend utilizes 20% possum fur, 70% superfine (17.5 micron), and 10% silk. The essential blend uses 30% possum fur, 60% merino wool, and 10% nylon.
We often get contacted by people who are distraught after losing possum merino knitwear purchased while on holiday in New Zealand. They love it so much they buy replacements and can't live without it.
The possum merino wool accessories are perfect as gifts. Especially for overseas visitors. Soft, fluffy & warm wool knitwear is always a welcome gift. And with accessories like scarves, beanie hats, hand-warmers, gloves or wraps you don't need to worry about sizing. We are often cheaper than the high street tourist shops. Possum merino knitwear is crafted by blending the fine fibers of New Zealand possum fur with high-quality New Zealand merino wool. The possum fur is sourced from New Zealand, where the brushtail possum is considered an invasive species. By utilizing this otherwise problematic fur source, possum merino knitwear contributes to conservation efforts and helps protect New Zealand's native flora and fauna.
Merino wool, sourced from the merino sheep, is renowned for its exceptional softness, breathability, and natural insulating properties. When combined with possum fur, which is incredibly lightweight and has superior insulation capabilities, the resulting yarn is one that effortlessly regulates body temperature and provides unparalleled comfort.
Possum Merino knitwear boasts an unmatched softness that rivals even the finest cashmere. The blend of possum fur and merino wool creates a yarn that feels gentle against the skin, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitivity to traditional wool.
The insulation properties of possum fur are remarkable. Despite its lightweight nature, possum fur traps heat efficiently, ensuring that wearers stay warm even in the coldest climates. Possum fur is the third warmest fur in the world, and the hollow fur shaft holds warmth. This makes possum merino knitwear an ideal choice for winter garments.
Merino wool is known for its moisture-wicking properties, which means it can absorb and release moisture away from the body. This not only helps regulate body temperature but also keeps the wearer dry and comfortable in various weather conditions. Merino wool is also well-known as an odour-resistant yarn.
Possum Merino knitwear is not only luxurious but also durable. The combination of possum fur and merino wool creates a fabric that resists pilling and maintains its shape over time, ensuring that your investment in quality knitwear lasts for years.
Choosing Possum Merino knitwear is a sustainable choice. The use of possum fur aids in the conservation of New Zealand's ecosystem, while merino wool is a renewable resource grown in New Zealand. Additionally, the natural properties of merino wool, such as its biodegradability, make it an environmentally friendly option compared to synthetic fibers.
At Gorgeous Creatures, we have a large range of possum merino wool knitwear accessories in stock and we can order men's knitwear or women's sweaters and knit jackets as needed, it only takes a few days.
Use one of your favourite sweaters or knit jackets to check against our sizing chart on each garment page.
Fold the wool sweater in half down the center middle placing the sleeve flat to the opposite sleeve. Then measure from the center of the neck (where the sweater brand label is) on a diagonal line down the arm to the middle of the cuff edge. This is what we call "centre back neck down sleeve" on our chart.
Also, measure the wool sweater while open and flat from about 3cm down from where the arm meets the body from side to side, this is the "chest" measurement.
There is a potential 2-3cm variation in sizing for knitwear due to the manufacturing process; it's not an exact science.
