Every step of the possum blanket making process is very labour intensive. Once all the factors are considered we hope that the true value of talented and skilled craftspeople that make these wonderful products will be better appreciated.

Hand wash mohair or alpaca throw blankets in warm water with a mild wool wash detergent. Never use hot water or the blanket may shrink and loose dye colour. Do not over-work the mohair wool or it will matt up and be ruined. Rinse well in cool water, and then slow spin out excess water.
At home minor spills on possum fur throws and blankets can be soaked up with a paper towel or sponge. It is possible to gently wipe the fur with a clean damp cloth or sponge but make sure that no water gets through to the leather underneath the fur.
Each fur repair project is unique depending on the age of the fur and the issues like split or perished skins, holes, weak areas of leather, dry and dull matted fur, furs that need to be replaced etc. Not all furs can be repaired, in fact many of the fur throws that we see are well beyond any help.
I have a confession. I didn’t brush my sheepskin as often as I should have. And now my wool rug will never look as good as it did when it was new. I talk about what I didn't do and what I should have done.
